Junny 주니

If you have not heard of Junny, then you have not listened to good music lately. This year has been rather interesting for me as I got to interview Jimmy Brown earlier in the year and now I got to meet Junny and attend his concert. I may not have found love this year but I surely found a lot of incredible Korean singers hehehe.

This week I had the rare opportunity to see Junny live in concert. I did not know what to expect so I went in very “vanilla”.

I debated for a long time whether to go as I am still recovering from contacting Covid a few weeks ago. I told myself, it’s now or never as I knew I would regret it if I didn’t go, so I went. It was, hands down, one of the best concerts I have ever been to in my entire life.

It’s difficult to explain in words but only 2 weeks ago I was listening to Junny on my phone not knowing he was on tour. Something made me check his profile, which I hadn’t done in a while. To my surprise, he was on tour and booked for Montreal!! I couldn’t believe it!

I bought the VIP Meet and Greet option, something I never did with other artists in the past. When I finally entered the venue, Junny was sitting on a chair near the entrance so casually that I did not even see him at first. It was a funny moment when the staff motioned to me, and I turned and there he was. Junny was hugging everyone that day, so he greeted me with open arms (no pun intended – BUT I got to hug Junny yay). He is super kind, sweet, down to earth, and so easy to talk to. We also took a group photo 😊 (see above).

After the hugs and chats we proceeded to go inside where I was, again, lucky to be near the stage. Ok so now I must say that I was genuinely impressed with Montreal fans for being so respectful, not only towards Junny, but also towards one another. No one pushed, everyone apologized if they accidentally touched or bumped into someone, and even offered to help take photos for people who were behind. I was truly left speechless as standing concerts are usually quite wild. Also, there was no security nor any barrier in front of the stage so I could touch the stage. This made the entire concert feel so intimate and personal as Junny was singing right in front of me. The entire experience felt surreal (did it happen for real? Lol). At the end of the concert Junny was signing items from the fans and people handed phones, purses, glasses and (brace yourselves) Korean textbooks. Even Junny was surprised to see a Korean textbook given to him to sign hahaha I did see phones flying above me as fans wanted to make sure Junny signed the case. It seems signing phone cases is a new trend at concerts these days.

To get to what is important, Junny’s voice is on a different level as you can see from the videos embedded, and I was very lucky to have witnessed his talent in person. His vocals are so clean, and he can hit some incredibly high notes. He also writes songs for other famous artists in Korea (Kai, IU, etc) and for himself. He is very talented so I hope more people will check out his music after (hopefully) reading this. I am glad I got to see him before he becomes very famous and intimate concerts like these are no longer possible.

To conclude, what really stood out to me is knowing the artist I love appreciates me as his fan. Junny really showed this to us all.

Thank you Junny for choosing to also come to Montreal. Almost no Korean artists ever come here so your presence was highly appreciated.
