Tune in for Love (유열의 음악앨범)

Directed by Jung Ji-woo

I did not expect this film to leave such a meaningful memory in my heart, nor did I plan or expect to write this review.

If you have not seen “Tune in for Love” with Jung Hae-In and Kim Go-eun, I highly suggest you watch it because the lessons it teaches us about life are timeless.

The film opens with this quote: “Broadcasting, love, and airplanes, do you know what they have in common? They all require the most amount of energy at the beginning”. We are taught that love just happens and you know when you meet your special someone. For some it does just happen but for others, it gets a bit more complicated than this, and, indeed, love requires an enormous amount of energy at the beginning to manifest. Why? Fears, circumstances, wrong choices, bad timing and the list goes on.

This is not your typical love story, it is not infused with over the top k-drama moments that we often see in Korean dramas. On the contrary, this is about real life and how long it can take two people who are deeply in love to find the right timing to be together and manifest their own love story.

This made me think very deeply about my own personal stories with love and it challenged many previously held thoughts about what love is, how it should happen, when it should happen and under which circumstances. The entire story takes years to come to fruition between these two people and it made me realize that beliefs we hold near and dear to our hearts are not always blossoming in the way that we had imagined.

It was wonderful to witness the movie showcase stolen glances between two individuals when no words are ever said or chance encounters with the wrong timing. How many of us go through these exact moments with a special someone that we see from time to time and exchange mutual glances that never grow into more, not knowing if they ever will?

How many of us send messages to someone not knowing if they read them or if they will ever reply? I would say quite a few of us, although many will never admit it.

The proper choice in love is not always the best choice for your heart because you cannot lie to yourself about who you like, no matter how hard you try.

It was beautiful to see the female character not give up hope that her love interest will someday reciprocate. I think that when you feel a certain connection with someone, it is not just imagination and those energies do vibrate in a special way to creates an inseparable bond difficult to explain in writing.

The movie ends on one of the best songs (in my opinion) by Coldplay, “Fix you” and it is exactly what I think it did for me.

It is difficult to put into words all the emotions I felt while watching this film but if you have ever been lost in love, please watch this as it will heal your heart.

Will you ever resonate on the same frequency as me?
