Korean Restaurant Review in Montreal

I am happy to finally have been able to visit most of the places I wanted to try out before writing this review. There are a few I still did not get a chance to go to but have included in this review, along with links and location.

I hope this review will give some insight to those who travel to Montreal in search of Korean food, as well as Montrealers who may not know of some of these places but would still like to try out something different.

1. Samcha

Samcha is by far one of my favourite Korean restaurants to go to in Montreal. The friendly ambiance, cute, yet simple interior decor gives it a home feel that makes you feel comfortable while enjoying dinner with your friends or by yourself. I recommend you arrive before 6PM as they usually tend to get super busy afterwards. The menu has a good mix to please everyone’s taste, with selections from mostly mainstream Korean dishes that will serve as a good introduction to Korean cuisine. If you go with a group larger than 3, I highly recommend making a reservation as they do get booked often and you will have to wait for a table on most nights.

2. Mon Ami

1488 Rue Ste-Catherine O, Montreal, QC Quebec H3g1s8

A popular chain with various locations in Montreal, it is one of the ideal restaurants to try out if you are looking for Korean BBQ, as well as a large variety of Soju and Makgeolli. You will have as close an experience to authentic Korean BBQ as you would in Korea. Each table is built specifically for this type of service, making this dining experience quite unique. The food itself is very good and I always enjoy my time there. The meal also comes with a small number of side dishes (banchan). I recommend you go with friends as BBQ is meant to be shared in good company. 😊

3. Comon

3969 Lasalle Blvd, Verdun QC H4G 2A1 & 5672, ave. Monkland, H4A 1E4

If you are looking for your authentic mom and pop Korean place, I highly recommend both locations in Montreal. The food is incredibly delicious with a home vibe. You will experience traditional, authentic Korean dishes, although still on the mainstream level that most non-Koreans would be familiar with by now. I highly recommend the fried chicken, kimchi jeon, japchae, and tuna kimbap, as they are some of my favourites when I go.

4. Daldongnae

1216 Rue Bishop, Montréal QUEBEC H3G 2E3

I recently tried out this restaurant and I absolutely loved it. To me this is probably the closest you can get to having a real Korean BBQ experience in Montreal in terms of how the dishes are served. I love the fact that all the banchan (side dishes) are free, as well as the refills (and you get a lot of them). The meats available for the BBQ are quite varied and very good quality. I only tried the Galbi (beef) but I am fairly certain none of the rest will disappoint. If you are in Montreal, you must pay a visit to this place.

5. Momo Café

5525 Ave de Monkland, Montreal QC H4A 1C8

Friends recommended this newly opened Korean café and I couldn’t be more in love with it. It is not a restaurant but I cannot write about Korean eating places without mentioning this one. It is absolutely adorable and it serves some of the best bingsoo’s in town. They offer cakes, macarons, teas and many types of coffees. If you want a break in your day and happen to be around Monkland, I hope you stop there to get refreshed.

6. Moa Moa

4424 Rue Wellington, VERDUN QUEBEC H4G 1W5

I have not yet been to this place but it was also highly recommended by friends and has good reviews online. Their menu is one of the most varied from the Korean restaurants I tried, so it is guaranteed to satisfy all tastes and preferences.

7. Sopoong

5385 min Queen-Mary, Montréal QUEBEC H3X 1V1

This is another place I have not yet tried in person but I pass by it daily when I go to work. To me it seems like a quick, easy and delicious restaurant to try out whether for lunch or dinner.

8. Chez Bong

1021 St. Laurent Blvd, Montreal QC H2Z 1J4

This lovely, quaint place is located in Montreal’s Chinatown. Its atmosphere also reminds me of your typical mom and pop place. It is quite small inside so I think making a reservation is probably a good idea. The food is made with love by someone very passionate about Korean cuisine and they also serve a variety of Korean alcohols. I really enjoyed the dishes I tried out and you will also get to experience Chinatown if you go to this location.

9. COQCOR

This restaurant is more of a fast food type of place, designed for people who need to stop by quickly to get a bite or eat or for quick take out. However, don’t let that fool you as the food is very good and the staff is super friendly. Another bonus for their Guy Concordia location is that they play non-stop K-pop MV’s on both of their tv screens inside, a plus for K-pop lovers. 😊

10. Chung Chun Kogo

1418 Pierce St, Montréal QC H3H 2K2

One cannot end a review on Korean restaurants without talking about Korean-style hot dogs. Here is a small anecdote for you. I will go back to 2021 during the pandemic when the first Chung Chun Kogo opened up near the Guy Concordia metro station. Given its reputation as being super delicious, people flocked to the place. The staff was fairly small at first due to the ongoing pandemic, and I don’t think they anticipated the number of people who went, so the lineups in front of this place made headlines on social media. I remember going with a friend on a very cold winter afternoon (-20 degrees) and waited for two hours to get two hotdogs. After that we had to rush home as Montreal was under an 8pm curfew at the time. Come to think of it, we must have been so exhausted with being forced inside our homes that we decided to bear the cold for two hours for this experience. Was it worth it? Absolutely! It created a memory I will treasure every time I think about Korean hotdogs. To this day, I still enjoy this every so often. Since then, they have opened up other locations, one of them being in Chinatown. If you are craving this, I definitely recommend you give it a go.

Thank you for reading this long review. It is not exhaustive, I have not covered many other Korean restaurants and cafes available in Montreal. I mainly focused on the downtown and NDG areas.

If you do a simple Google search for Korean restaurants/cafes you will find many more in other locations you can also try out.
